Jeff Horn v Gary Corcoran Tips

Jeff Horn, the man who beat Manny Pacquiao in a jaw-dropping upset in the summer, is back in action, making the first defence of his WBO world welterweight title, taking on Englishman Gary Corcoran on Wednesday 13th December, in Brisbane.

Not your usual slot for a world title fight, and not a famous venue either, but this rates as a fantastic opportunity for 27-year-old Corcoran, who travels half way across the world looking to cause an upset. Will the Brit get a result, or is this the perfect opportunity for Horn to further boost his stock with a successful defence? Our team of experts give their views on the night, giving their betting tips and predictions.

Jeff Horn vs Gary Corcoran – Fight Preview and Predictions

Jeff Horn, 17-0-1, wasn’t given a hope against Pacquiao last time, but his handlers got the Pac Man over to Australia, and it paid off, packing out the Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane to watch the local hero defeat a real great of the game. 29-year-old Horn won on points back in July, 117-111, 115-113, 115-113. It’ll now be interesting to see where 38-year-old Manny goes now, and if Horn can build on that result.

The local has won three of his last four by KO/TKO, the spare being that nod on the scorecards last time out. Randall Bailey, Rico Mueller and Ali Funeka were all dealt with inside-the-distance, each of those fights settled before the ninth round. Another KO win is worth keeping in mind, according to bookies, Betfair trading 6/4, the points result more likely, even money favourite with the same firm. Prefer to play the straight win? Horn is the daddy there, 1/7 the best you’ll find if getting involved in the Sportsbook.

Many casual fans wouldn’t have seen too much of Gary Corcoran on his way to the top, but he’s a fighter with a desire that can’t be matched, and Wednesday’s shot was a long time coming. The Londoner boards a long-haul flight with a record of 17 wins against one defeat, the spare coming at the hands of Liam Williams in Cardiff last summer, stopped in 11. That was a result that surprised me, I thought he may have been out-boxed, but wouldn’t have had a free bet on him failing to last the distance.

He bounced back with a pair of wins, beating James Gorman (8-35-1) as he was expected to, TKO 5, before gaining the result that catapulted him through the ranks, outpointing Prizefighter winner Larry Ekundayo in July, courtesy of a split decision. Corcoran, nicknamed Hellraiser, is 11/2 (888Sport) for the win, or those with a bit more confidence can get on the KO at 17/2, or points at 15/2.

Jeff Horn vs Gary Corcoran – Betting Tips and Predictions

I was a gym-mate of Gary Corcoran during our days at the TKO Gym in London, and a sparring partner of his in the early part of our professional careers. The thing that always stuck in my head was his relentless work rate, never taking a backwards step, throwing every punch with intent, he smothers his opponents and stops them working. Will he be able to do that here? It’ll be a big ask, but it’s by no way impossible.

Horn hasn’t convinced me yet, and if Corcoran can pull off an upset, which I think he can, he’ll bring the title back to Britain and open the door for some massive fights. Take the away win in your betting tips at 11/2 (888Sport), or the fight to go the distance looks worth a spot in predictions at 8/11. Midweek, and at an awkward time GMT, but a fight that’ll be well worth watching.
