Josh Taylor vs Miguel Vazquez – Fight Preview Predictions

10 wins from 10 fights, 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Josh Taylor took his professional record into double-figures last time out, recording a personal best over dangerous Londoner Ohara Davies. In what was billed as a 50/50 before the off, Davies himself an unbeaten champion, Taylor made a mockery of the man in the opposite corner, out-boxing then out-fighting the Englishman, before delivering a devastating seventh round TKO. In my opinion, I haven’t seen a better performance from an inexperienced pro in a big fight, and I wasn’t the only one with that opinion.

Bookmakers were another group won over by the performance that night, and want nothing to do with stopping the Scottish express train. If you had planned a Saturday night in front of the TV, watching the fights with a bet on Taylor to win – it’s time for a re-think, as there’s currently no more than Coral’s 1/20 going on the local lad delighting his growing support. Another without the need for judges is 4/6 jolly with the same firm, a points verdict making more appeal at 13/8 (Betfair).

Miguel Vazquez, not a household name among casual followers of the noble art, but at 30 years old, bringing a record of 39 wins and five defeats, 15 of those victories by way of knockout, the man from Jalisco, Mexico demands our respect. There’s not many boxers from that part of the world that can be taken lightly, but Puppet arrives on the back of a four-fight winning run. He famously took Mickey Bey the distance in 2014, losing a split decision for the IBF lightweight title. There’s plenty left in the tank too, stopping two of his last four.

Josh Taylor vs Miguel Vazquez – Betting Tips and Predictions

The visiting fighter has also mixed it with the likes of Saul Alvarez and Timothy Bradley Jnr, taking both men the distance. Wow! If Taylor can beat him it’ll be a real statement of intent, if he can stop him, that’ll send shockwaves throughout the sport, considering he’s never been halted. An upset win for Miguel is 12/1 with Sportingbet. A big price, but a big ask.

Taylor’s handlers have done a job here, bringing over a man with an impressive CV that they think their boy can beat, and fast-track himself towards the division’s big names in the process. For their money bringing Vazquez over here they should get the win, but should also see Josh pulled the 12-round distance for the very first time, asked questions in every round. A man who’s always dangerous, Taylor can’t afford to switch off.

We can’t back Taylor at the price to claim the fight, that much is a given, but I see bundles of value in the points verdict at 13/8 with Betfair. I just can’t think why that’s such a big price. It was a few years ago, but Canelo Alvarez couldn’t stop this guy, so let’s keep our feet on the ground.
