Lee Selby vs Eduardo Ramirez – Fight Preview and Predictions

Lee Selby defends his IBF world featherweight title against unbeaten Mexican Ramirez, in what promises to be a pivotal night in the champion’s career. The 30-year-old from Barry brings a record of 25 wins, nine of those coming inside the distance, against one defeat. We can, of course, forgive that spare, as it came very early in his career, back in 2009, to be exact, beaten on points over four rounds by Samir Mouneimne. Defeat is not something he has had to get used to.

The 5ft 8inch orthodox was last seen beating Jonathan Victor Barros on points at Wembley Arena in the summer. The Argentinian was passed with minimal fuss, scores of 119-108, 117-110 and 117-110 telling the story of how things went. The beaten man was sent to the canvas in the last round, but other than that, the night passed without incident, Selby doing what he does best and boxing to orders. He’s no better than 1/16 to win again, forcing backers into the method of victory market. Another points cheer 4/6 fav at Betfair, the KO/TKO yours at 13/8 (Bet Victor).

Eduardo Ramirez goes with a 23-fight undefeated record. Impressive, but a closer look shows three draws in the books, which is extremely rare for a fighter on the way up. The 24-year-old southpaw’s style makes him difficult for judges to take to, and he ended level last time, scrapping out a 95-95 finish with Leduan Barthelemy over 10 rounds in September. Far from the ideal preparation for a crack at the world title, but the fighter from Los Mochis has become used to it.

Another draw can’t be easily dismissed, especially with a heavyweight 35/1 trading at Sportingbet. Followers of the trends will find it interesting to know that each of the underdog’s last three wins have all come on the scorecards, but were over six, eight and 10 rounds. Ramirez has, in fact, never boxed over the championship distance, and that may be where Selby will aim to hurt him, capitalising on a lack of experience. Bringing a 29% KO average is why he’s 25/1 with Betfair to win by knockout, points even less likely, surprisingly, 33/1 (Coral).

Lee Selby vs Eduardo Ramirez – Betting Tips and Predictions

We’ve got a straight win for Lee Selby here, and I expect him to put on another boxing masterclass. The young Mexican, with his awkward style and hunger to make a name for himself in this part of the world, won’t be easily beaten, but he will be beaten, nonetheless. The fight going over 9.5 rounds at 4/11 with Ladbrokes looks one for your boxing accumulators. I wouldn’t put anyone off a play in their betting tips.

Those after a better price, something to make their viewing that bit more interesting, should take Selby to win on points again in their predictions at 4/6 with Betfair. Again, not a price that’s going to make you rich, but it’s strongly supported by the stats, and will lend a hand in multiples. Lee’s winning run on points will continue, the beaten man leaving England with credit in defeat.
