Championship, kick-off at 3:00pm Saturday 21st October 2017 from Villa Park
One of the standout fixtures from Saturday’s Championship card goes at Villa Park where former Premier League duo Aston Villa and Fulham lock-horns from 3.00pm. The locals are two places higher in the table going into round 13, but there’s only two points in it. The winner of this match will propel themselves towards the promotion places.
Bookmakers expect Villa to get the desired result, pricing them as favourites, but there’s not an awful lot in it, and that indecisiveness will invite punters to crowd around and take a shot at landing a nice price pay-out. You have the weight of our experts behind you in that push for profit. Read on as we lay-out the best of our betting tips and predictions.

Team News – Aston Villa
Villa dragged themselves up into seventh on the back of a fantastic winning run, form that helped boost the confidence of everyone at the club, proving they can make a push for the major places this season. Leaders Wolves are currently seven points better off, but there’s plenty of football still to be played and manager Steve Bruce will see a place in the top-two automatic promotion places as a very achievable goal.
They didn’t do themselves any favours last time out however, losing to the table-toppers away from home. Tripping to the Madejski was never going to be an easy task, but Villa went in knowing they could announce their arrival as title contenders with a win. They didn’t manage it, ending on the wrong side of a 2-0 result. Wolves scored two second-half goals to boost their tally, Jota and Bonatini both on target. That result saw them go top ahead of Cardiff.
Bruce was refreshingly honest in his post-match media chat, telling scribes Wolves were better than his boys. He gave credit where it was due, admitting that sometimes you have to put your hands in the air and say the stronger team won. That view won’t do much to inspire his side, but they are the pick of bookmakers to get the win. Fancy Villa to beat Fulham? Team News – Fulham
While Villa were slipping up vs Wolves, opponents Fulham extended their unbeaten run to four with a draw at home to Preston in a four-goal thriller. The Londoners kicked off that purple patch with a share vs Middlesbrough at the cottage last month, before beating both Nottingham Forest and QPR on the road. Back at home, they were in a sharing mood.
Is it a confidence thing in front of their own fans, the pressure proving too much? Or was it merely a failure to see games out that has saw Fulham drop points in recent home starts? We’ll find out over the coming weeks and months, but they must make Craven Cottage a place of fear for opponents if they are to return to the Premier League, either through the play-offs or a top-two finish.
Hugill and Maguire gifted Preston a 2-0 lead inside 25 minutes last weekend, but a Norwood penalty and a stoppage-time leveller from Odoi settled things even. The last goal came on 96 minutes, sending fans into mad celebrations, at least those who had stayed behind. Fulham to win again away from home is 21/10 with most firms, including Betfred.
Aston Villa vs Fulham – Championship Tips and Betting Predictions
I’ve given Fulham the benefit of the doubt recently, as I expect a big season from them, but they’re up against it here. They’ve been scoring goals, but leaking too many at the other end, so we’ll have over 2.5 goals in this game as the NAP of our betting tips, a play that will see you bank 10/11 (Betfred), if we’re on the money. Stick that in with two or three others to make up a punchy acca.
I am going to side with Fulham again and although we’ll keep our stakes down to interest level, we’ll try 2-1 Cottagers at 11/1 with Betfair. You don’t have to risk too much to get a decent return on that one. Fulham did beat Aston Villa when the pair last met back in April, and we’re hoping they’ll repeat the feat in a high-scoring match. Next best of our predictions.
