Blackburn vs Portsmouth – Tips and Betting Predictions

League One, kick-off at 3:00pm Saturday 21st October 2017 from Ewood Park

Blackburn v Portsmouth Tips

We switch our attentions to Ewood Park as Blackburn and Portsmouth, two former powers in English football, do battle over three League One points. The sides are locked on 20 points, Rovers do have two games in hand, meaning victory here would set them in a great position. Recent form suggests they have every chance of getting the desired result too.

This will be the first meeting of these rivals since April 2010, when the pair shared the Premier League. That match ended in a goalless draw – fans couldn’t have imagined the future that lay ahead. We’re expecting plenty more action in front of goal this time, as explained in our betting tips and predictions laid out below.

Team News – Blackburn

Tony Mowbray’s men took their time to settle into their League One stride, and they go into this latest test having won just half of their first dozen outings, but they are a club on the climb, and have taken eight points from the last 15 available, despite failing to win in two. Defeat to Oldham Athletic on the road was a surprise, and they followed that with an uninspiring 1-1 draw vs bottom-club Plymouth last time out.

Argyle fans haven’t had much to cheer, but they watched on as their side scored first at this venue on Tuesday, Carey breaking the deadlock on 31 minutes. That remained the main talking point in front of goal until Dack knocked in an equaliser in first-half stoppage-time, sending the teams into the break level. A host of missed chances in the second-45 meant there was no further scoring. Blackburn took a point, but they only had themselves to blame.

Despite having an incredible 25 shots at goal, Rovers’ players put just four on target, and that miserable return will see them struggle most weekends. Odds compilers expect better, and a home win is favourite at Betfair’s even money – one for the betting tips and predictions of accumulator backers, I expect. Another draw is top price 27/10 (Betfair), and there’s enough value in that offer to ensure players pay attention.

Team News – Portsmouth

Portsmouth are three goals behind their hosts in 11th, but have picked up three wins in their last five, and if they can steady the ship and put together a strong run of form, they’ll surely be mixing it in the promotion play-off places sooner rather than later. Pompey can send out a message to the rest of the division with victory here. Two tiers separated these teams last season, there’s now nothing in it, a fine example of Pompey’s progress.

Kenny Jackett’s men have won two of their last three, beating Gillingham and MK Dons without conceding, before losing 2-1 to Doncaster Rovers on the road last time out. An off-day, there’s no doubt about it. Can they return to winning ways? Followers with confidence can take advantage of the 11/2 at Coral on the visitors winning to nil again, but that does look to be a big ask. Nothing ever comes easy at Ewood Park.

If you’d prefer to keep it simple and back the straight away win, the price is lower, of course, but there’s still enough floating around to merit an interest. Pompey are the outsiders of three in the match betting market, with Betfair particularly keen to take them on, offering top price 31/10 the points heading back to Fratton Park.

Blackburn vs Portsmouth – League One Tips and Betting Predictions

Anything can happen in this match. If Blackburn play to the best of their abilities, they’ll edge it, but if both teams bring their A Game, and play the type of football they are capable of, fans will be the real winners of the day. I was surprised to see Portsmouth, who boast the better recent form of the two, so easily written off. I’ll take a chance +1 on the handicap at 10/11 with bet365.

That’s the ace of our betting tips, and should give us something to cheer home, if our thinking proves to be shrewd. Aiming higher, and we’re on the 1-1 finish at 6/1 (William Hill) in the correct score market. That’s favourite, and certainly wouldn’t come as a shock, but the price means we can keep our stakes low and enjoy an interest.
