League One, kick-off at 3:00pm Saturday 14th October 2017 from Boundary Park
It’s not too often we stick our noses into goings on at Boundary Park, but Saturday sees an intriguing fixture take place at the Greater Manchester venue when locals Oldham host Blackburn. The visitors sit on the edge of the play-off places, knowing a win here could launch them into the top-five. Following a poor start, Rovers finally appear to be on track for promotion.
This will be the first meeting of these sides since 2001, Blackburn winning a League Cup match 2-0 at Ewood Park, thanks to goals from Matt Jansen and Darren Dunning. Two players were sent off that day. Are we on for more drama here? Free betting tips and predictions mapped out below.

Team News – Oldham
Oldham are a dangerous side to oppose at this level of football. They’re not the greatest, granted, and won’t finish anywhere near the prize places, but it never pays to write them off, either as punters, or fancied sides taking them lightly. The truth is, Oldham are capable of beating any side in League One, and go into this looking for a stunning hat-trick.
Despite being stuck down in 19th, a shaky start leaving them just a point above the drop zone, Oldham have won three of their last five and each of their last two. A pair of defeats suffered at the hands of Shrewsbury and Rotherham, the latter a 5-1 hammering, the Latics bounced back to beat Peterborough at this venue and Portsmouth down at Fratton Park. The Pompey result a real shock, Eoin Doyle scoring a double to upset the odds.
Oldham also nicked a 1-0 win last time out in the EFL Trophy, beating Crewe on their travels, injecting further confidence into the ranks. Despite that turnaround, the locals have been written off by bookmakers to bank another maximum on Saturday, 3/1 available on the Betfair exchange. That’s a meaty price about an in form home side and we’re sure it’ll see bits and pieces of attention in weekend betting tips.
Team News – Blackburn
Blackburn are another who have struggled for consistency so far, their record standing at six wins, one draw and three defeats. They too appear to have steadied the ship however, and after taking just a point from meetings with AFC Wimbledon and Shrewsbury, they battled to beat Rotherham and Gillingham, keeping a clean-sheet in both. Blackburn are just a point behind Peterborough in fifth, but only three better than Southend down in 15th.
Tony Mowbray’s crew have already realised they’ll get nothing for free at this level, and had to ride their luck last time on-route to a 1-0 win over Gillingham at Ewood Park. Dominic Samuel scored his fifth goal of the season on 30 minutes to separate the sides, and they came close to adding a second later in the day, but had to settle for a nervy 1-0. Scotland international Charlie Mulgrew had a big say in the goal and we’re surprised he has followed his side into League One.
Blackburn have won each of their last two outings to nil, and you can have the third at 2/1 with most firms, including Coral. A bet worth taking in your predictions if you fancy the chances of the away side. A straight Rovers win will be easier to land, but the price has been reduced, 4/5 trading at Boylesports. That does look a touch tight in what should be a competitive 90 minutes.
Oldham vs Blackburn – League One Tips and Betting Predictions
Blackburn’s last six starts in all competitions have been low-scoring games, under three goals in each. In a tight match, with not too much value floating around, I am going to stick with that and have under 2.5 goals at 4/5 (Betfair). That’s NAP of our betting tips, and will hold its own in your accumulators, alongside a few similar selections.
Fancy a bit more? We’re with 1-0 Blackburn in our correct score predictions. Back our thinking and if we’re on the money, 888Sport will be paying out at 13/2, which is the best price around at the time of writing. Favourite in the market, but odds worth having.
