Scottish Championship, kick-off at 3:00pm Saturday 14th October 2017 from Glebe Park
Morton make the long trek from Cappielow to Glebe Park on Saturday in search of three much-needed Scottish Championship points. The visitors are favourites, but board the coach having lost as many games as they’ve won so far this season, 3-2-3.
So, why do traders have The Ton at odds-on to pick up the desired result? That’s because the hosts are bottom of the league, without a win on the board from eight attempts. City have lost each of their last three, and we think they’ll leave empty-handed again. Here’s how – follow our free betting tips and predictions to ensure you profit from the day.

Team News – Brechin
Brechin are holding the Scottish second-tier up, just two points on the board from their first eight starts, already three off Inverness in ninth. Falkirk and safety is currently four in the distance. It’s not looking good, and it got a great deal worse last weekend when Darren Dods’ side slipped up vs St Mirren in Paisley, losing 2-1. The result was to be expected, The Buddies are in fine form, and City were probably a tad more competitive than we expected, but it was all for nothing.
Smith got St Mirren ahead on 18 minutes when scoring the opener, and although Orsi levelled things up before the break, sending the teams down the tunnel for a breather with the scores level, Hilson grabbed the winner late in the day, netting the third of the contest on 78 minutes. A bitter pill for Brechin to swallow, given their effort, but they’d better get used to it. Mistakes are punished at his level, no questions asked.
The beaten side did have chances to take a rare point home with them, but they could put only three shots on target from eight attempts, meaning some serious shooting practice is in order if they are to turn defeat into draw, before thinking about forcing draws into wins. A home cheer is 4/1 with most firm, including Coral, while the draw trades 3/1 (Betfair). Nice prices, but unlikely to feature in too many betting tips, which is understandable.
Team News – Morton
The Greenock Ton haven’t quite lived up to last season’s promise, and so far we’ve seen only flashes of their true ability. Those flashes came when beating St Mirren, Dunfermline and QOS. They weren’t as good when losing to Dundee United, Livingston and, most recently, Falkirk. The latter isn’t too bad on paper, Falkirk are a very decent side, but that was their first win of the season, and remains their only win of the season to date.
The visiting support will choose to look on the bright side, and they have a group of players who should be good enough to boost their tally by three points, while keeping Brechin down as the division’s whipping boys. If Morton were to lose this, manager Jim Duffy would be asked some serious questions. The real hope for The Ton so far has been Jai Quitongo. The attacker is a lovely 15/2 (bet365) to score first, or 9/4 anytime. Note that down.
Morton will target the win, and it won’t matter to Duffy who scores or how they achieve it. The side must get back on track as soon as possible. Odds compilers believe they’ll do just that, and are in fact so confident of the away day that they’re trading no more than Sportingbet’s 7/10. Tight enough, but that’s best price. One for your accumulators predictions, we expect.
Brechin vs Morton – Scottish Championship Tips and Betting Predictions
Morton should win this, but there’s more value in taking Quitongo to score anytime at 9/4 with bet365. The youngster has a big future ahead of him in the game and rumour has it scouts from the English Premier League have been showing an interest. He’s quick, strong and can score goals, so we’re happy to trust him as the NAP of our betting tips at Glebe Park.
In Brechin’s four matches last month, they lost two by a 2-1 full-time score, including to St Mirren last time. They also ended 1-1 with Falkirk in a match they were fortunate to get anything from. Keeping that in mind, we’ll go 2-1 Morton as the next best of our predictions, 15/2 second favourite when getting your money down at bet365.
