Livingston vs Dundee United – Tips and Betting Predictions

Scottish Championship, kick-off at 3:00pm Saturday 14th October 2017 from Almondvale Stadium

Livingston v Dundee United Tips

April 2006, the last time Livingston hosted Dundee United, the sides sharing the Scottish Premier League at the time. How things have changed for both sets of fans since, Livi finding themselves down in League One last term. Home fans will take encouragement from the fact they strolled to a 3-1 win that day.

Morrow, Pinxten and Brittain were all on target for The Lions, United hitting back through a consolation goal from Robertson. The line ups are unrecognisable, but will the final score fall into line? Bookmakers believe so, pricing home cheer up as favourite. Prefer to take on the traders, or play this one safe? Follow our betting tips and predictions to find out the best approach.

Team News – Livingston

Livingston are holding onto a promotion play-off place and we’re full of credit for their boss, former Chelsea and Scotland player David Hopkin. He puts high demands on his players, but they appear to be living up to expectations, and go into this tie on the back of a three-game winning run. Pace-setters St Mirren are only three points ahead and home fans will allow themselves to dream. A return to the top-flight after an extended absence is top of their wish-list.

Having lost just one match from eight so far, Livingston cut their way through the pack with victory over Inverness, Falkirk and Dumbarton last month. They also came agonisingly close to claiming the scalp of Hibs in the League Cup, eventually losing 3-2 to the Premiership side. Encouraging, but they’ll be happy enough to focus their attentions and energies on gaining promotion, as opposed to winning silverware this year.

The locals had to roll up their sleeves and scrap to the points when hosting Dumbarton last time, Lithgow and Halkett netting in a 2-1 win, Walsh responding for The Sons. Dumbarton had more of the ball that day, but the match winners scored two of five shots on target. That sharpness in front of goal will be needed again. Livingston to bank another maximum is 13/8 favourite, top price on the Betfair exchange.

Team News – Dundee United

Second top Dundee United could catapult themselves into the driving seat with a win on Saturday. That’s easier said than done against an opponent of Livi’s quality, The Lions boasting plenty of confidence. They’re unbeaten in four, and go in search of the hat-trick, having won each of their last two. United have been the more consistent side of the two so far.

Ray McKinnon’s men narrowly missed out on promotion last season, falling in the play-offs, and they’ll want to avoid the lottery of another extended season. They won’t have a better chance to win the Championship either, with main rivals Inverness battling relegation after a horrible start. The Arabs will aim to hit the front before Christmas, then call on their experience to stay there.

Both teams have scored in each of the last two meetings of these sides, and this one giving us more of the same is worth a look when piecing together your betting tips and predictions. Sportingbet offer a market best price 31/40 on that one, and that’ll do a job in accumulators. Betfair make the away win a 13/8 shot, and that’s the general feeling out there, although a few are shorter, so be wise when choosing your bookie.

Livingston vs Dundee United – Scottish Championship Tips and Betting Predictions

This is a tough one to call. Livingston are at home and in great form, but I’d prefer to side with Dundee United’s recent experience of pushing for the title at this level. To make things easier on ourselves, we’ll have both teams to score as the NAP of our betting tips at Almondvale. 31/40 is good enough to merit a place in Saturday multiples.

If you were hoping for more from what promises to be an entertaining match, then our correct score play is for you. I’m going to keep my stakes down to a minimum and have a pop on the 3-2 Dundee United win. We’ll need a fair share of luck to get that weighed in, but the 30/1 (Betfair) is too good to ignore.
